What is happening?
Rahui Road closed at Main Hwy due to installation of new wastewater manholes.
How will it impact the Route 290 and school bus Route 509?
Bus 290 and 509 will travel around Ōtaki Plateau one-way loop in the opposite direction to usual.
Buses on the new detour travelling in the opposite direction may run at slightly different times as scheduled.
Congestion is likely, so please allow extra time for your journey.
Detour Route
Route 290 and Route 509 buses travelling to Ōtaki Plateau follow a detour via County Road.
Buses travelling along Main Hwy (Old SH1) detour right into Waitohu Valley Rd, right into Dittmer St, right into Te Manuao Rd, left onto Main Hwy (Old SH1), left into County Rd, Left onto Rahui Rd, left onto Freemans Rd, left into Te Manuao Rd, left onto Main Hwy, straight over the roundabout at Mill Rd, detouring via Dunstan St to Mill Rd.

Bus stops will be closed and temporary stops located on the opposite side of the road.

Bus detours between: 6am Wednesday 31 December 2025 to 6am Thursday 1 January 2026
What is happening?
Courtenay Place will be closed to all traffic between Tory Street and Cambridge Terrace during the New Years Eve Carnival Event.
What happens to the buses?
As buses are unable to travel through Courtenay Place, all bus routes will detour.
- All Eastbound buses toward Cambridge Ter/Kent Ter/Oriental Parade detour via Taranaki Street and Cable Street.
- All Westbound buses toward Manners St/ Willis St detour via Wakefield Street and Taranaki Street.
