Metlink are proud to be an essential partner in the first fully electric high speed passenger ferry in the southern hemisphere. Ika Rere, the 19-metre locally built boat now carries Metlink commuters across Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington Harbour.

Operating from 1 March 2022
Benefits
In operation from March 2022, the carbon fibre catamaran can carry up to 132 passengers at 20 knots - this is faster and increases the capacity by one third in comparison to the previous diesel-powered vessels.
The zero emissions ferry has joined our continued expansion of electric vehicle fleet.
