Wellington Railway Station Wheelchair Ramp

Description

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga supported KiwiRail in building a wheelchair ramp at the front of Wellington Railway Station.

Wellington Railway Station is a Category 1 heritage-listed building regulated by a heritage covenant, under which KiwiRail and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga both needed to agree on significant changes, so this ramp design was worked through carefully with all parties.

Benefits

The ramp runs from the left of the station’s main steps up towards the main entrance and gives wheelchair, mobility scooter and bikers an accessible route in and out of the station.
