Wellington Harbour Ferry
The Wellington Harbour Ferry runs commuter services between Queens Wharf and Days Bay, with some trips continuing to Mātiu/Somes Island.
Bike bookings are now required on the ferry for trips between Queens Wharf and Days Bay.
In response to increased demand for carrying bikes on certain sailings, East by West now require bikes to be booked in through their booking system. Please see more information below.

Tickets
Tickets can be purchased from the East By West ticket office on Queens Wharf or onboard the ferry. 10-trip tickets need to be purchased from the office or online.
Please use your preferred contactless payment method or EFTPOS. Snapper cards and cash are not accepted.

Concessions for trips between Days Bay and Queens Wharf

Children under 5 travel for free.

SuperGold card holders travel free during off-peak hours but still need to collect a ticket from the ticket office if it is open or from the on-board staff.

Connect tickets are for passengers with either an accessible concession or a Community Services card.

Tertiary 10-trip ticket fare is 25% of adult 10-trip ticket fare for passengers entitled to Metlink Tertiary Concession.

10-trip tickets cannot be used for more than two people at a time.

There is no wheelchair access on the ferry.
Bikes and dogs on leads are permitted but must remain on the upper deck.

Free bookings are now required for selected sailings. You will get priority boarding when you book.
If you haven’t booked, you may still be able to bring your bike if space allows.
Bookings are required between 10am – 3pm on weekdays, and all day on weekends. Outside of these hours, you can bring a bike without booking.

Mātiu/Somes Island Day Trips
Trips to Mātiu/Somes Island require bookings prior to boarding, including SuperGold card holders. You can buy tickets from the office located at Queens Wharf or via the East by West website.
All tickets are for a return ferry trip. The ferry departs from Queens Wharf, stops at Days Bay to pick up passengers, then continues to the island. Visitors have 2 hours on Mātiu/Somes Island before the ferry returns to Queens Wharf via Days Bay.
Matiu/Somes Island is a scientific and historic reserve administered by the Kaitiaki Board and managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC).

Pets and Bicycles are not permitted on the island (pushchairs are allowed)

Visitor numbers are limited to protect the island's special species and plants.
